Good fishing is reported these days in the Carson, especially about Spanish Dam.

130 years ago

A big temperance job. The first copy of a new temperance paper called the Sixteenth Amendment has reached this office. It is a large, well-arranged newspaper, whose mission in the world is to see that the Congress of the United States adopts the following amendment to the Constitution: “Section 1. Neither distilled or fermented liquors shall be made, imported, transported, sold or used for drinking purposes within the United States.”

100 years ago

This morning a bunch of inmates from the state penitentiary began the work of clearing the Capitol park of its surplus trees in order to make room for the floral plots to be laid out. Many people still living in Carson witnessed the planting of the trees way back in the seventies, and this morning a number of the old-timers stood by and figuratively bade farewell to the trees marked for doom.

70 years ago

The initial meeting of the proposed Rod and Gun Club was held last night at the court house with over 70 persons attending. John Savage, chairman of the board of county commissioners, opened the meeting.

60 years ago

Mrs. Clarence Berger entertained members of the Wednesday dessert bridge club. Mrs. Wilbur Gordon scored high, and Mrs. Harry Sweetland low.

50 years ago

Nevada’s 1965 highway toll stood at 33 Sunday with the death of a California man in a one-car accident on U.S. highway 50, west of Carson City. The toll on the same date last year was 37.
