Carson City fire department battles house fire, saves boy

The Carson City Fire Department saved the life of a 12-year-old boy Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to a call of a house burning at 1418 La Loma Drive around 9:45 a.m. They were informed there could be people inside. When the firefighters arrived, they entered the house and found the boy sitting on a bed, surrounded by heavy smoke. Firefighters were able to rescue the boy.

“The crews did a fantastic job,” Bob Schreihans, Carson City Fire Chief said. “They saved a boy’s life.”

The fire was put out and crews left around 1 p.m., as investigators came in to determine the cause of the blaze.

Because of the limited crew the fire station has, trucks from Douglas County, Truckee, and Central Lyon County had to take calls in Carson while the local stations dealt with the house fire.

Earlier Thursday morning, crews also dealt with a small electrical fire at the North Carson Street Starbucks. Starbucks employees had put out the blaze with an extinguisher by the time crews got there at about 8:30 a.m., but the building still had to be evacuated for heavy smoke.
