Among the many specimens of ore, minerals and curiosities collected by Professor Stewart of Humboldt County, two are worthy of special mention. One is a specimen of crystallized sulphur, which weighs 40 or 50 pounds, from the Rabbit Hole mine. It is really beautiful and is highly prized. The other is a block of saccharine marble, eight or 10 inches square, from a ledge recently discovered in Table Mountain, south of Unionville, which Stewart says is equal to the finest Italian marble.

Assumed rapture. The Comstock papers are trying hard to show what a tidal wave of enthusiasm swept over the Comstock when Col. Fair came up to “greet his old friends.” Sen. Fair should not mistake the assumed rapture of hungry sack hunters for the cordiality of men whose hearts warm with the fires of friendship.

One of the sleeping cars of the Barnes Circus, on the switch off, the main track at the Virginia and Truckee depot, was practically destroyed by fire late this afternoon. The department was called out and responded quickly, but the fire had made such headway there was little chance to save anything.
