A 27-year-old Nevada man convicted of five counts of murder has been sentenced to death for the 2013 killing spree.
The jury sentenced Jeremiah Bean Thursday after nearly two hours of deliberation.
Bean was convicted of five counts of first-degree murder last week. He also was convicted of arson, burglary, robbery and larceny charges.
Prosecutors had sought the death penalty for Bean, who they say had murdered for money. They argued that in May 2013, Bean had fatally shot two couples in two homes in rural Fernley and a newspaper deliveryman at an Interstate 80 exit east of Reno.
Bean’s defense attorney, Richard Davies, who had asked the jury to spare Bean’s life, still praised the jury after the sentencing for their efforts.
