The 16th annual Western Nevada College Golf Classic, benefiting Northern Nevada high school and college students, gets underway Friday, Sept. 18 at Silver Oak Course.

We invite you to join the more than 150 golfers who are expected to compete in the tournament, hosted by the Western Nevada College Foundation. The Foundation, founded in 1992, raises funds in support of the college through employee giving, special events and campaigns, and individual, corporate, and private foundation gifts.

Tournament sponsors, including Michael Hohl Automotive Group, AT&T, Waddell & Reed — Amy Clemens and Stevan Lyon, Carson Tahoe Regional Health Care, Greater Nevada Credit Union, Gold Dust West Casino, Dick Campagni’s Carson City Toyota and Capital Ford and Eagle Valley Golf Course, add to the fun. The tournament features raffle and tee prizes, barbecue and awards ceremony, hole-in-one prizes, on-course refreshments, a special margarita hole, poker run and team photos.

The 18-hole tournament features a four-person best-ball format with a shotgun start at 9 a.m.

Teams of four can sign up for $475, and individuals can sign up for $125. Business sponsorship and team entry is $700.

Proceeds from the Golf Classic help to support the College’s greatest needs, including scholarships for students, Jump Start College and the Applied Industrial Technology programs. Proceeds from the tournament help students achieve their academic goals and give back to the community as a skilled, educated workforce.

Jump Start College, a student success initiative, is a partnership between Western Nevada College and 14 western Nevada high schools offering high achieving juniors and seniors the opportunity to earn up to a college associate degree prior to their high school graduation.

Many of these students would otherwise not be able to afford college without your support.

No gift is too small to help keep WNC on the road to excellence. Private giving enhances Legislative funding to meet the special needs of the college and its students. You can designate a general gift or donation for needs such as scholarships, an individual faculty project or college program like Jump Start College, or support for our quality of life programs such as the observatory or musical theater.

Entries and sponsorships for the Golf Classic are being accepted until Sept. 8. Register online at www.wnc.edu/foundation.
