What happens when two dedicated Carson City service clubs, the Kiwanis Club of Sierra Nevada and the Sunset Rotary Club, become a team? Together everyone accomplishes more.
The two service clubs have members who aren’t afraid to roll up their sleeves and work up a sweat while getting their hands dirty for a great cause. The fundraiser event Wednesday night raised money for Sierra Therapeutic Equestrian Program, Inc, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals locally who are dealing with physical, mental, emotional or educational special needs.
This equestrian program has been the dream and passion of Konnie Mcgruder with the support of her husband, Terry Mcgruder. Together they have helped dozens of children and adults. STEP has been a 501(c) 3 nonprofit since 1997. The Mcgruders are always looking for volunteers along with small or large tax deductible contributions.
One-hundred-twenty wonderful people attended Wednesday night, listened to Chris Bayer’s live music, enjoyed appetizers personally prepared by the members of both service clubs and tasted a wide variety of wines or beers. They bid on silent auction items and discovered the benefits of a Chinese raffle.
Linda Bowman with Kiwanis of Sierra Nevada and Debbie Young-Nelson with Rotary Club of Carson City Sunset deserve a big thank you for being the Co-Chairwomen for Wednesday night’s event. With big smiles on their faces they said in unison, “Where else could you have such a great time for only $10! Don’t miss our next STEP fundraiser.”
