United Federal Credit Union marked the grand opening of its new branch near Summit Mall on Dec. 9 by giving back to the community with a U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive.

The new branch at 13989 S. Virginia St. matched up to 50 new unwrapped toys brought to the branch, according to a press release.

“It’s our way of partnering with the community to make a positive impact for those in need during the holiday season,” says Market VP Danny DeLaRosa.

“A lot of people don’t realize that credit unions exist solely to serve their members, not to make a profit,” explains Branch Manager Michael Boreham. “As a not-for-profit financial cooperative we can provide a convenient place for members to save money and access loans and other financial services at reasonable rates.”

The Summit branch brings UFCU’s number of free-standing branches in the Reno area to five, and there is a sixth branch under construction in Carson City. The credit union also has an in-store branch at the Walmart Supercenter on Kietzke Lane, and a satellite branch at Reed High School.

United Federal Credit Union has served its members since 1949.
