Cow adrift. Mr. J.P. Jones, who can be found on Fifth Street between Division and Nevada streets, advertises in another of today’s Appeal his loss of a dark red cow, which can be recognized by having a brass knob on one of her horns. He is supposed to have a young calf with her.

Bill Nye describes the modern newspaper thusly: The newspaper of to-day is a library. It is an encyclopedia, a poem, a biography, a history, a prophecy, a directory, a time table, a romance, a cook book, a guide, a horoscope, an art critic, a political resume, a ground plan of the civilized world, a low-priced multum in parvo ... It is, in short, a bird’s-eye view of all the magnanimity and meanness, the joys and griefs, the births and deaths, the pride and poverty of the world, and all for three dollars a year in advance.

Robby Clements, 12, son of Mr. and Mrs. R.E. Clements of 204 E. Fourth St., was slightly injured last night after slipping on the ice.

Attending the annual compact dinner meeting of the Nevada Society of Mayflower Descendants held recently at the Holiday Hotel in Reno were Mr. and Mrs. William Crowell, Mrs. John Harvey, Mrs. G.H. Ross and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ross. Mrs. Crowell is presently serving as Deputy Governor of the Society.

Carson City poker players continued to dominate Cactus Jack’s twice weekly Super Bowl of Poker satellite tournaments. Carson’s Romey Moline won Sunday’s tournament over Virginia City’s Bill Fain.
