A Nevada state senator will miss the first weeks of the legislative session due to an undisclosed medical condition.
Democratic state Sen. Debbie Smith said she is seeking out-of-state medical care due to an undisclosed illness. The Sparks lawmaker said in a statement issued Monday that she was feeling fine and will release more information about her condition soon.
Smith was elected to the state Senate in 2012 after serving 12 years in the Assembly. She serves as the assistant minority leader in the Senate.
The 120-day Nevada legislative session kicks off Monday.
