In the thick of wildfire season, the Bureau of Land Management is urging safety as families and friends gather by campfires, barbecues and fireworks to celebrate the Fourth of July.

The agency says the safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display sponsored by a local community.

Other tips include:

Never leave children unsupervised around any type of fire.

Avoid starting any type of fires when conditions are dry or windy.

Observe firework restrictions — research local, state, and federal laws regarding fire restrictions and the use of fireworks.

Keep in mind the tip of sparklers burn at a temperature of more than 1,200 degrees, which can easily ignite dry vegetation.
