Nevada Fair returns to Carson City July 30-Aug. 2

The Nevada Fair will return to the capital city for the second year. The Nevada Fair will be July 30- Aug. 2 at the Carson City Fairgrounds.

“We’re really excited for this year’s fair,” said Susan Taylor, fair manager. “It’s going to be a fun, family friendly event that will have something for everyone of all ages.”

Fair goers across the state who are interested in entering the livestock and other competitions at the Nevada Fair may do so online at nevadafair.com.

The premium book is open for entries in the livestock shows as well as other competitions, including home arts, cooking, homespun items and sewing.

“It’s great,” Taylor said. “It’s amazing how creative people can be.”

This year’s feature events will be a Smackdown Bull Riding 7 p.m. Friday, July 31, and a Truck Pull at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, put on by MLM Motorsports.

“They’re the best in the business,” Taylor said.

Scott Fahrenbruch, deputy director of the Carson City Parks and Recreation Department, said beer gardens, with seating available inside tents, are also going to be scattered throughout the park this year.

“People can sit there and listen to the bands,” Fahrenbruch said. “It will be a nice little oasis.”

Shuttle bus service will once again be provided from the parking garage at the Casino Fandango to the fairgrounds.

“The only reason we’re able to do this is it is a route on our JAC bus system,” explained Patrick Pittenger, Carson City’s transportation manager. “They did a fine job for us last year.”

Other attractions will include a carnival, pig races, circus acts as well as commercial and food vendors.

Volunteers are being sought for help with parking and other responsibilities, such as setting up and taking down the exhibit hall. Volunteers are also needed to check in entries and other exhibits and supervising livestock.

Fair organizers are also looking for bands and other performing arts groups to provide entertainment.
