150 Years Ago

Col. Curry. He has begun piling up rock near his lot on the corner of Curry and Musser and preparing for the erection of a commodious fire-roof stone warehouse. It will be one story and have a 42 1/2 foot front on Musser Street and 70 feet on Curry Street — near the Appeal office.

130 Years Ago

Camping out, leaves from a lady’s diary. A diary was turned into the Appeal to be advertised under the head of “found.” The Appeal has decided to print it verbatim et literatim ... “We have started this morning with two wagon loads. It was awful hot and dusty all day, [and] we had an awful time ... A lot of children squalled all night; the horses got away; some dogs stole our grub and mosquitos were all about us.” (Continued on Thursday).

110 Years Ago

Good luck, bad luck. The young man, Paul Schwalbach, who has been running about town in an Olds auto, was on his way to Tonopah and discovered he lost a package containing his coat, vest, two gold watches and considerable money. Mr. Kirk of the railroad came into town and left the bundle at Benton’s livery stable. The young man identified the package and was on his way to Tonopah again.

70 Years Ago

Hitler’s death. (Berlin) Col. General Alexander Gorbatov declared that there is still no definite proof that Adolf Hitler is dead.

50 Years Ago

Belmont (ghost town). The famous mining camps of Nevada will return to the spotlight when the famous “ghost towns” will welcome hundreds of visitors in an encore performance of last year’s revival honoring the Nevada centennial. Center of the attention will be the famous Belmont courthouse.

15 Years Ago

Museum expansion. A new annex, the old First Interstate Bank building, will be renovated to become the showcase for a new changing gallery for the museum. The first major exhibit will be “Under One Sky” to open in October 2001.
