The Indian fight (continued from Tuesday). He fought them four hours and suffered a loss in his command of two men killed and three wounded. Unfortunately the guns and the bodies of the slain fell into the hands of the enemy. He is confident some of the Indians were provided with repeating rifles. He withdrew when attacked from the flanks and rear (continued on Thursday).

130 years ago

What is known as an “oreana” among Nevada cattle men, is called a “maverick,” in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado. In a recent Montana cattle case a cowboy, who was called to the witness stand, testified that a “maverick” is somebody else’s calf that you get your brand on first.

100 years ago

Tomorrow the fish commission will send to Lake Tahoe 30,000 young silver salmon. This is to be one of three plantings for this variety of fish — one at Tahoe, one at Walker Lake and one in Pyramid.

70 years ago

Lieut. Co. Ta-Wei Li of the Chinese Army is spending a two-week furlough in Carson City. The colonel graduated from the U.S. Army command and general staff school at Leavenworth. The colonel has paid his respects to local military authorities.

50 years ago

Fifteen beauty queens, including Miss Nevada, were named semifinalists for the 1965 Miss U.S.A. Pageant. The semifinalists include Denyse Turner, 23, of Las Vegas.
