Education achievements: Fernley graduate awarded scholarship

Fernley Republican Women awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Jensen Radley, who excelled in academics, athletics, leadership and community service, at its meeting on May 19.

Radley, who graduated with honors May 29 from Fernley High School, plans to attend the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in the fall. Her academic strengths are in math, science and history. She has taken honors classes, advanced math classes, AP classes and participated in a duel credit program through Western Nevada College. She was the 2014-15 senior class president.

Radley aspires to be an athletic trainer and have a career in sports medicine. She has run in numerous half and full marathons, running her first full marathon at the age of 14. She played varsity basketball all four years she attended Fernley High School. She is a lifeguard at Fernley Swimming Pool and teaches children to swim in her spare time.

Carson City natives graduating from Oregon Institute of Technology

Two Carson City natives, Amanda MacIntire, an applied psychology major, and Nathan Cowden, a respiratory care major, are graduating from Oregon Institute of Technology.

The commencement ceremony will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 13, at John F. Moehl Stadium in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Online charter school enrolling for upcoming school year

Leadership Academy of Nevada is expanding and has added a limited number of seats for the 2015-16 school year.
