The Nevada Mining Association and Nevada Division of Minerals are hosting a workshop for Northern Nevada teachers.

The three-day program is designed to enhance teachers’ understanding of earth sciences and the role that mining plays in the lives of Nevadans.

“The mining industry is Nevada’s oldest and most enduring STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education) industry,” said association President Dana Bennett. “We hope to give teachers the tools they need to incorporate minerals and mining in their classrooms, whether they teach art or geology.”

The workshop begins July 14 at Manogue High School in Reno.

Bennett said the workshop is free of charge and open to all K-12 teachers no matter what subjects they teach. Those attending can get one professional development credit.
