Carson City Chamber event at prison to feature Lacy J. Dalton

The Nevada State Prison will be rocking Monday night as well-known country folk singer Lacy J. Dalton is the first to perform in this historic setting. Joining her in concert is singer/songwriter Dale Poune, the accomplished guitarist from Carson City who has performed with some high-profile bands.

The prison has been closed since May 2012, and the Nevada State Prison Preservation Society has been busily making the property ready — as ready as one can make an old property — for this historic event sponsored by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce as part of its 70th Anniversary celebration.

Those who have not yet seen Dalton in concert are in for a treat. She’s been compared to the powerful Bonnie Raitt and has a strong melodic voice. She resides in the Virginia City Highlands and states, “I moved to Nevada because I wanted to live where the sky goes on forever and the wild horses still run free.” She has six dogs and one adopted Mustang and spends much of her “free” time, when not tending to her animals, writing songs and exercising her vocals.

Destiny is her favorite word, and it’s sure to be destiny on Monday evening when she performs in the prison yard where the acoustics are going to reverberate throughout as she performs her old hits, some new ones, and tributes to both Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, Jr.

Concert tickets are available for $40 per person, paid in advance only. Reservations may be made online or by calling the Chamber at 882-1565. No ticket sales after Friday. Concert begins at 6:30 p.m. with gates opening at 6 p.m.
