Carson City Board of Supervisors to take up goals on Thursday

City Manager Nick Marano’s goals and priorities for next fiscal year will highlight Thursday’s meeting of the Carson City Board of Supervisors.

The action item on the agenda late in the session, which begins at 8:30 a.m. at the Carson City Community Center’s Sierra Room, 851 E. William St., calls for defining and prioritizing desired outcomes the board sees as necessary for proper city operations and attainment of board policy objectives by establishing goals for the fiscal year that starts July 1.

At an earlier meeting, the board reviewed Marano’s first year of work and said he met or exceeded expectations.

Marano also will handle two items earlier in Thursday’s meeting dealing with the fiscal impact of and recommended approval involving a draft collective bargaining agreeement between city government and the Sheiff’s Supervisory Association on behalf of the Sheriff’s Lieutenants/Captains group. The four-year pact requires a public hearing first, then a vote on approval if the board accepts it.

At this point, the agenda appears relatively routine and so no lunch break is called for because the board — which is also morphing into the Liquor and Entertainment Board at one point sitting with Sheriff Ken Furlong — should get through the 27 items on it without any extended break.

Other items slated for action include one to adopt the property tax rate of $3.52 per $100 assessed valuation as certified by the Nevada Tax Commission, a routine matter that followed a decision to drop the rate two cents next fiscal year made during the spring when revenue projections and the city’s budget were considered.

Also on tap are four other finance provisions dealing with refunding of bonded indebtedness to save the city on interest rate charges. One is a resolution and the other three are ordinances.
