Gardnerville, Nev. — Both lanes of Highway 395 through the Pine Nut Mountains reopened at 7:24 p.m.
The road has been closed or open to just one lane since just before 1 p.m. when a fatal head-on collision occurred south of Ray May Way.
A fatal head-on collision on Highway 395 just above Pine View Estates resulted in at least two other critical injuries.
The Nevada Highway Patrol is conducting the investigation into the collision.
The collision involved three vehicles including a Honda Pilot, a Chevrolet pickup towing a trailer and a Honda Acura.
The initial investigation indicates the Pilot was northbound on Highway 395 behind the pickup when the driver attempted to pass, pulling into the path of the southbound Acura.
One person was killed, while two others were helicoptered to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
Firefighters responded to the collision, which was reported at 12:53 p.m. Sunday at Mile Marker 10 in the Pine Nut Mountains.
Firefighters reported having to cut two of the victims from the wreckage.
The usual alternative route through Markleeville and over Monitor Pass is closed by the Washington Fire.
The only paved alternative is to take Highway 50 to Silver Springs and then south through Yerington.
