Carson High’s Kylie Schmid believes the best way to prevent bullying is to reach to the youngest in our society.
That’s why Schmid just completed two weeks of visiting first and second grade classrooms to spread her anti-bullying message as part of her senior project. Schmid completed her tour by visiting Mrs. Brewer’s second grade class at Mark Twain Elementary School on Friday.
This past week, Schmid made five visits to second grade classrooms. The previous week, she made five visits to first grade classrooms.
“I wanted to get to the young kids because I think they need to know about it when they’re young,” Schmid said.
As part of her visits, Schmid gave an anti-bullying presentation and leads the students in an anti-bullying activity. She also gave all the students she visited a bracelet that says, “I am buddy, not a bully.”
In addition, the students she has visited have done anti-bullying drawings. Schmid will compile the drawings into posters to be displayed at the students’ schools.
