Meals provided at Nevada State Prison: Breakfast — boiled beef, steamed potatoes, bread and coffee; dinner — roast beef, beans, bread; supper — stewed beans, bread and tea. The cost per head is somewhere in the neighborhood of 22 cents per diem.

The State University. Reno will probably never have a state university. There are two bills bearing upon the matter, and they are in conflict with each other. One authorizes the transfer of the university site to the county of Washoe when the sum of $20,000 is paid down. The other authorizes the payment by the county of Washoe of $20,000 to the county of Elko, after Elko County has transferred the title to the university site to Washoe.

Counterfeit money. The man who was sent up for “shoving the queer” in Virginia City made a big mistake. In that city of sound money, a greenback of any kind is looked upon with the same degree of affection as ... a bedbug colony (Reno Journal).

Ladies endeavor. A Sock Tea given by the Ladies Endeavor will be held in March. With each sock purchased, a number on a hand-quilted quilt will be given. Socks can be purchased at the tea for anyone not having one. The sock also admits you to the tea.

Dinah Shore. Famed vocalist and television personality Dinah Shore will be guest of honor at a Silver Tea sponsored by the Nevada Easter Seal Society to be held at the Governor’s Mansion. Funds will be used for the Nevada State Crippled Children’s Society.
