Carson City’s Planning Commission has vacant seat

Applications from residents who are interested in a vacant seat on Carson City’s Planning Commission are being sought by the Board of Supervisors.

City government issued the announcement late this week to start the process of filling the seat for an unexpired term on the commission that’s due to the death of Malkiat Dhami a week earlier. Dhami had served on the commission nearly six years and was in his second term. The term will run until June, 2017, and those interested in serving in the voluntary role should apply by April 24.

The commission oversees matters pertaining to city planning, zoning, land use and growth management. Meetings are the final Wednesday of each month. They normally begin at 5 p.m. and are at the Carson City Community Center.

Applicants must be residents, registered voters and should anticipate the service without compensation would require an estimated 12 to 16 hours monthly.

Information is available at the city’s carson.org website or at executive offices in City Hall, 201 N. Carson St. Interviews are tentatively planned by the city governing board at the May 7 meeting of the mayor and supervisors.
