Fast driving and swearing ordinance. The offenders in both instances were Empire men taken into custody for fast driving his nag about in a very discursive and promiscuous fashion. Officer Butts imprisoned him. Hardly had the key been turned that one of his friends came upon the scene and warned up some too loudly, waxing profane and talking a trifle louder than the law allows. Butts took him in charge and set him alongside of his imprisoned towney.

Local notes. It is authoritatively stated that President Cleveland blacks his own boots. Fisher’s Sarsaparilla can be found at Walter Chedic’s. In the spring when the blood is bad, the medicine removes all tumors. Vesuvius is again pouring out lava. The old mountain is probably throwing up to show how it feels over negotiations between Russia and England.

Prophetic evangelist. The News of Elko took him to task, and he denounced the News as an organ of the Devil. There seems to be an influx of preachers who come from California to convert the heathens. Nevada is in no need of Pecksniffs and hypocrites who come from abroad to pose as moral teachers.

Caption. Science fair — pictured are Neal Artz, who experiments with a Geiger counter as seventh grade classmate Aleta Woodgate and science instructor Dave Mindew look on. Neal and Aleta are working on exhibits they will enter in the Junior High School Science Fair.

Bobcat. After being hit by a car and four months of being the shelter with a broken back, the bobcat was expected to be released into the wild.
