Empty Bowls project returns to Carson City

The Empty Bowls Project returns for another year with its first event to be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 16 at the Carson City Sheriff’s Station, 911 E. Musser St.

Anyone is welcome to participate at this free pottery making event to end hunger in Carson City.

Empty Bowls Carson City is seeking local businesses, organizations and private donors to match the donation jar at each of its various events throughout 2015.

In December, 2013, the community gathered at the Silver & Snowflakes Festival of Lights and collected donations for more than 600 beautiful hand-made bowls. More than $2,700 was raised for Friends in Service Helping (FISH).

In December, 2014, the Empty Bowls Project grew raised more than $7,600 for FISH.

Other scheduled events include:

EBCC sponsored by Deloitte Consulting at the Children’s Museum on Friday, June 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Free admission to the museum provided by Deloitte in addition to the free bowl making.

EBCC at Farmer’s Market in Carson City every Saturday from June 6 to Sept. 19. Weekly bowls will be limited to 60 which will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Weekly local sponsors to match the donation jar are also being sought. Some Saturdays will include demonstrations on the potter’s wheel.
