140 Years Ago

Pioneers’ picnic. The Pacific Coast Pioneers are preparing for their picnic on June 26. The Committee on Cars reported having consulted with Superintendent Yerington and secured 35 cars at $75 each for the excursion. Two bands of 12 pieces each will play, one from Virginia and the other from Gold Hill. Full arrangements have been made with Mrs. Bowers, and the Pioneers will have control of the grounds for the day along with the receptions rooms and all portions of the Mansion not now occupied. Five thousand tickets have been printed — cost of round trip is $2.50.

Local notes. The fact that the maccaroni [sic] crop on our ranch has failed was agricultural slander started by John Bath. H. S. Mason is selling large quantities at his store. Bath’s ranch is too wet for maccaroni, hence the cunard.

A busy summer. A new school house is to be erected, work on the new library building will be under way and railroad will be finished before the snow flies.

70 Years Ago

Junior-Senior prom. The theme chosen for the affair will be “In an old Dutch garden,” and the hall will be decorated in keeping with the theme.
