140 Years Ago

Mrs. Abraham Lincoln. The Chicago Inter-Ocean contains a report of the proceedings in the County Court of Cook county in Illinois, regarding the examination of Mrs. Abraham Lincoln on the charge of insanity. Her medical attendant testified as to her mental hallucinations, saying that “an Indians was removing the bones from her face and pulling wires out of her eyes” and that “someone was taking steel springs out of her head and would not let her rest.” Mr. Robert T. Lincoln, her son, testified that his mother came to his room nightly with the alarm of being assailed by poisoners.

Memorial Day. A fitting observance of Memorial Day is being made by the Committee of Custer Post. They are the men who take the greatest possible interest in the celebration, and they expect the cooperation of all citizens. The list of graves to decorate has been largely augmented by the addition of the unknown dead, removed from Fort Churchill.

Up in a Balon [sic]: Those who enjoy the sight of a balon can be satisfied when Prof. Mars goes skyward and drops back to mother earth in a parachute. The exhibition on Sunday is free so that no one is going to be flim-flamed.

The Rambler by Wes Davis. It is suggested to the Carson City Lions’ Club that they change the title of their letter contest to “How to Improve Carson City” instead of “What is Wrong with Carson City?”

Births at Carson-Tahoe Hospital. Wright — Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wright of 1209 Beverly Drive, Carson City, are the parents of a boy weighing four pounds eight and three quarter ounces born Thursday, May 27, 1965. (He is still a resident of Carson City after 50 years).

The Wild West Tour will have costumed guides that will lead walkers along old Carson City. Special speakers will be Mark Twain and Abe Lincoln.
