Mystique over spirits hurdle, opens soon in downtown Carson City

The city’s Liquor and Entertainment Board Thursday approved a liquor license for the owner-manager of Mystique Restaurant & Lounge, opening downtown next month.

The six-member panel, which includes Sheriff Ken Furlong and the Board of Supervisors, also approved managership licenses involving a place for painting and wine or beer, and for two food marts in Carson City.

Yvette Barrett, owner-manager at the restaurant and lounge going into a commercial building at 318 N. Carson St., told the board she would be opening in a couple of weeks. Afterward, she told the Nevada Appeal her opening date would be either Dec. 3 or some time in the following week. She said either way, the opening will be well before Christmas.

“I’ve been a passionate employee of restaurants,” she told the board, and she used Mystique as the new place’s name because opening it is “magical for me and my family.” She mentioned La Ferme, which recently closed in Genoa, during her testimony and afterward said she had worked there about three years. She said Mystique’s fare would include steak, lamb and seafood, with some exotic items, and the menu would change weekly.

The board also approved a managership liquor license for Teresa Sexton, owner of Van Gogh & Vino at 1087 S. Carson St. “Right now I’m just a paint studio,” said Sexton. “I’d like it to be a paint and sip studio.”

The board’s approval went as well to Dalbir Singh, liquor manager at One Stop Food Mart, 3150 E. Nye Lane, and Kishan Singh at RK Food Mart, 500 Hot Springs Road. Both are package store licenses.

The Board of Supervisors met with Dr. Susan Pintar, city health officer, as the city Board of Health late Thursday morning. Pintar reported the Sexual Assault Response Team rape kit test facility at the old hospital on Mountain Street is furnished and equipped, but there still is a need for properly trained nurses.

Health and Human Services Director Nicki Aaker reported on various programs, among them the city’s Job Fair track record of more than 200 employed from the first four fairs with more coming from a fifth in September this year. The first fairs were in 2013, two in 2014, and one other earlier this year. She said more than 2,000 job seekers had attended the five fairs.

Another HHS report indicated this year flu vaccine was offered at some 40 community events, in three school districts and in other venues. There were 2,370 vaccinated at the events and 3,500 via the schools.
