The shooting of Dick Wheeler. Since our brief mention of this affair Tuesday morning we have gained the particulars. Pat Birmingham was a notorious rough who was made to leave Virginia City on account of his quarrelsome disposition. It appears he made his headquarters in Poison Switch, Mason Valley, and soon established himself as a terror to the community (continued on Thursday).

A triumph of principle. Sam Davis of the Carson Appeal has won his suit for public printing in the District Court of Ormsby County. He got judgment in the Justice Court, and the case was appealed. It probably cost him more than the amount claimed, but it was a just demand, and we congratulate Sam upon his triumph of principle over official parsimony (Times-Review).

The powers that control seismic disturbances were in a convivial mood all Saturday afternoon and evening and paid their respects to almost every town on the west coast between Salt Lake and San Francisco on the east and west. The visits did not do much material damage, but the oscillations were of sufficient force to let people know that something out of the ordinary was doing.

S/Sgt. Clarence Berger and Mrs. Berger have returned to their home here after spending several years in San Francisco where Sgt. Berger served as a mail specialist in the Marine Corps. He will return to his job here at the local post office Oct. 15.

Afternoon installation ceremonies on Sunday seated Bonnie Park as Worthy Advisor of Carson Valley Assembly No. 14, Order of Rainbow for Girls. Guests included members of Rainbow, Eastern Star and Masons and friends that numbered about 100.
