Yesterday morning the Perasich brothers made a determined attempt to take the life of Aschim, the man who killed their brother at Panamint some months since. Young Aschim arrived in Carson from Virginia and stopped by the Ormsby House intent on taking the morning stage to Panamint. While writing a note that morning the clerk of the hotel observed the Perasich brothers (continued on Friday).

(Demented politicians; continued from Wednesday). But when the collector comes around at the end of the month to gather in money to keep the paper going, he invariably finds these gentlemen either very short of change, or not at home. And then in the hour of need they desert and betray him (continued on Friday).

100 years ago

The walks in the State Capitol grounds are being filed in with broken up rock from the state prison. The stone, after tamped, will be covered with gravel and sand. Later on the Capitol commissioners intend to surface the walks with asphaltum or concrete, or perhaps both.

70 years ago

The “train crew” of the special train that will carry the Lions of Sparks, Reno and Carson City to Minden Oct. 27 over the Virginia and Truckee was named. William T. Mathews, engineer; E.H. Bath, fireman; Judge Clark J. Guild, conductor; Red McCloud, Bob Tolson and Ralph Gelvin, trainmen; Graham Dean, special passenger representative; Isle Bair, news butcher and Gov. Vail Pittman, porter.
