(Virginia Fire, continued from Friday). The Babcock fire extinguisher was promptly at hand, as also the hand engine of Fire Company No. 4, but all was of no avail to stay the progress of the flames; before the steamers could get a stream on the fire, the doom of the city was sealed. A strong wind was blowing form the west, which carried the flames and burning cinders hundreds of feet, and 20 minutes after the first alarm was sounded, not less than 30 or 40 buildings were in flames.

An Indian School. Sarah Winnemucca is in Winnemucca and informs the Silver State that she is going to build a $500 schoolhouse on Naches farm, near Lovelock, for the education of young Paiutes. If she gets enough money, she will have a well sunk on the ranch and a windmill erected to supply the school with water.

100 years ago

Cleaning out the springs. Wils Brougher with a force of is busy these days cleaning out the wells at the Carson Hot Springs in the belief that the process will restore the underground pressure that disappeared when the recent earthquakes took place. Now it is necessary to pump water, when before underground pressure made water flow.
