Nevada Historical Society. A meeting of the Directors of the Nevada Historical and Scientific Society held a meeting in Governor Blasdel’s Rooms. The following persons were elected members (in part): Henry R. Mighels, John G. Cradlebaugh, James W. Nye and Chauncey N. Noteware of Carson City. A motion was carried soliciting editors of newspapers in Nevada to contribute a copy of their papers for preservation in the archives of the society, and also moved that all pioneer settlers in Nevada be solicited to furnish historical and statistical information of the early settlement of this country ...

University. There will be grand jubilation in Reno over the laying of the cornerstone of the State University. Students will come from all over the state, make business, spend money and help the town. Reno put out a few thousand dollars and will draw about 50 percent per annum on it.

110 Years Ago

Hancock’s last night. Hancock, the murderer, is scheduled to be executed at the state prison. His death walk will be from the prison cell across the back yard of the prison to the old shoe shop where the gallows is awaiting its first victim. The rope has been stretched, and the knot is tied. One of the requests that he makes was that his breakfast be of fried oysters.

The Rambler by Wes Davis. Nevada Day — If men will do their best for the next six weeks to raise some sort of facial foliage and more women will costume themselves as belles of the ‘60s, and more business men, etc., will take time and money and build interesting floats of that period, then the town will present one colorful panorama.
