Carrington Co., which owns Carson Mall, is buying the old Copeland Lumber Yard but the deal isn’t consummated yet and is in escrow.

Mayor Robert Crowell made the announcement of the purchase during the Board of Supervisors meeting just before noon Thursday but Joanne Holmes, who is with the California company, later said the purchase was still in escrow and so the purchase wasn’t yet complete. She was attempting to halt publication of misinformation, noting the mayor went too far, and the mayor during his announcement said he had learned of the deal from Holmes.

“That’s an acquisition that could really help that mall down there,” said the mayor, also calling it a big deal and thanking the firm for its investments in Carson City.

The vacant lumber yard address is listed as 906 S. Stewart St. The mall is located on the 1200 and 1300 blocks of South Carson St.
