Fireworks, gunfire Friday night

Residents around the Silver Saddle Ranch in Carson City should expect to hear fireworks and gunfire Friday night.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit is conducting its sensory testing for the horses as a part of a week-long training.

Sheriff Ken Furlong said there will be fireworks and simulated gunfire between 7-10 p.m. Friday in southeast Carson City.

This training is used to desensitize the horses so they aren’t as easily spooked by the loud noises they often hear during their duties. Because the Mounted Unit is typically used for large crowd events such as Nevada Day or carnivals, the horses need to get used to the loud noises that are commonly associated with such events.
