Donation to help build Carson City’s FISH housing project

City National recently provided Friends In Service Helping (FISH) with a $6,000 donation for a low-income housing project in Carson City.

The donation will help pay to furnish the 39-unit housing project with beds and other household items, and will help FISH sustain their existing emergency and transitional housing projects.

FISH is partnering with Nevada Rural Housing on the Richard’s Crossing project that’s scheduled to open in May of next year.

The project will have eight apartments designated for chronic homeless veterans. Homeless veterans will receive priority for the remaining 31 units. Other tenants will include homeless individuals going through local Mental Health Court and Drug/Alcohol Court, and other low-income/homeless individuals/families from Carson City and the surrounding areas.

FISH is a 501(c)(3) organization that was formed in May 1979 in direct response to the growing numbers of homeless and hungry residents in the Carson City community. While FISH began as a small food closet, it soon began offering shelter services in Carson City when the organization merged with Friends of Citizens Under Stress (FOCUS). FISH has grown to become rural Nevada’s largest and most complete human services program.
