Northern Nevada Family Fun Day set for Aug. 27 in Carson City

A family-orientated event offers more than games, prizes and your favorite face-painting artist.

Organizers say the event brings three important aspects to a local community: organization promotion, donation contributions and family networking. That’s why Cassidy Davis, owner of the Northern Nevada HotSpot, is hosting Carson City’s first Northern Nevada Fun Day on Aug. 27.

“I have wanted to host an event of this nature for over a year now,” she said. “I think it is a desperate need in our community. We need more events that are family friendly and oriented. Family Fun Day is just that.”

Davis has been hosting events for about two years. She said the area is lacking family friendly events in the recent years, since most involve alcoholic beverages.

To change that concept, The Northern Nevada HotSpot has partnered with other local organizations such as The Sophisticates of Carson/Douglas; Reno/Sparks, Nevada Live Magazine, Carson City Visitors Authority and Reno Media Group.

In addition, the Family Day is also focused on helping a charity become an official 501(c)3 nonprofit. The organization primarily focuses on donating food to the homeless and assistance to struggling families.

To keep the momentum going after this upcoming event, Davis met with local community groups and planned out a calendar of events for 2017. Some of the events consist of helping those residing at the Dew Drop Inn with groceries and other needs.

Another fundraiser for the homeless is scheduled Dec. 3-4 to provide holiday dinners to families.

Northern Nevada Fun Day is Saturday, Aug. 27, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Mills Park in Carson City. Admission to the event is free and prices for certain activities vary. The event also will have a kid zone, workshops, shopping vendors, food, live music, and a $100 cash giveaway. Even volunteers dressed up as Disney Princesses and pirates will be there to entertain guests.
