Acknowledgement: We acknowledge the receipt of complimentary tickets to the Ball of the Zouaves, which is to come off on Tuesday evening next. We will endeavor to be there, and recommend all of our friends who wish to see the plain quadrille illustrated by the celebrated X step to be present. We hope the boys will have a crowded house.

No one realizes the troubles of being an editor. Being called an “alleged journalist” by a $15-a-week writer is only one of the terrible setbacks a man has to endure when running a newspaper in Nevada.

Miss Maude E. McCrate and Herman W. Albert of Tonopah were married last Sunday morning, shortly after midnight. The ceremony was solemnized on Montana hill. Miss McCrate, who served as secretary of the Montana-Tonopah Mines company for several years, has the distinction of being one of the few women in this country in charge of a big mine.

70 years ago

Sierra Wine and Liquor Company of Reno has the distinction of paying the highest excise liquor tax ever collected in the state of Nevada for one month. The payment amounted to $11,937.53 in February.

50 years ago

Marion E. Pennington, 64, familiarly known to many residents as “Penny,” the popular Nugget bartender, died last night in Carson-Tahoe Hospital. He lived for several years at Sand Point, Idaho, before coming to Carson City.
