Barn unroofed: During the storm on Monday night a large barn and shed belonging to W. Winter, of Jack’s Valley, on the road between Carson and Genoa, were entirely unroofed by the gale. There were five men sleeping in the barn, and 17 horses and mules were in the shed and a lot of cattle in the corral. Neither men nor animals were injured. Barn and shed damaged to the extent of about $400.

Excitement was intense in Carson all of yesterday afternoon and last night over persistent rumors that Warden Dickerson had tendered his resignation to Gov. Boyle. At present, the prison will be under the charge of Joe Muller, present captain of the guard.

Grand Master Cyrus Wycliffe of Nevada Odd Fellows made his official visit to Virginia lodge No. 1 in Virginia City Monday evening. With members of the order from Carson City and Reno attending, all reportedly enjoyed the inspiring talk by the grand master, which revealed increased activity and gains in membership.

Don’t panic if the air raid siren warning goes off here this week. Fire Chief Les Groth announced today that the regular fire department whistle is out of order. Until parts arrive for repair, the fire department will be using the air raid siren.

Millions of dollars worth of contracts for the state’s review of a possible high level nuclear waste dump on federal land in Southern Nevada were endorsed Tuesday by the state Board of Examiners.
