Coffeebar

Coffeebar, a full-scale Italian café originally founded in Truckee, Calif., will be opening Coffeebar Squaw Valley on the eastern end of The Village at Squaw Valley.

The Coffeebar team is working towards a pre-Christmas opening date.


GALLINA LLP

GALLINA LLP, an accounting firm with an office in Reno, will join national professional services firm CliftonLarsonAllen LLP, effective Jan. 1, 2017.

FoodMaxx

FoodMaxx, a warehouse-style grocery chain based in California, will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony of its new Carson City store on Dec. 7 at 9 a.m.

The new 52,000-square-foot store is located at 3325 Highway 50 East in Carson City. It is the second FoodMaxx location to open in Nevada.

To highlight the event, FoodMaxx will match every donation made at checkout to Ron Wood Family Resource Center during its Give.Share.Care! Holiday Drive from the grand opening through Dec. 27.


Volaris

Volaris, an airline operating in Mexico, the United States and Central America, introduced the airline to the Costa Rica market with a celebration in San José.

Volaris Costa Rica is a mid-to-long term project that will start operations in December 2016 with the route Costa Rica and Guatemala and it will add new flights within the next months. This will enhance the connectivity within and to the region at accessible prices. In the next three years, the fleet will grow to 18 to 22 aircrafts.

Volaris also offers flights between Reno and Guadalajara.


V & T Railroad, TMCC

The Virginia & Truckee Railroad has partnered with an architectural design class at Truckee Meadows Community College for a conceptual redesign of the V&T’s depot in Carson City. The project provided an opportunity for 16 students to transform the current depot into a memorable train station.

Presented as a mock client, the V&T presented the class with requirements for the new design keeping history in mind, which students utilized to construct floor plans to meet the needs and wants of the railroad and its guests.

Proposals for the current 3,000-square-foot building included exterior awnings and railings reminiscent of traditional stations, outdoor deck areas overlooking the tracks. The transformation also included more lighting via windows, French or double doors, and ceiling skylights.


Commercial real estate transactions

Bergelectric Corp. leased 2,036 square feet of office space at 5050 Vista Blvd., Suite 102 in Sparks. Dominic Brunetti, Scott Shanks, and Joel Fountain of Dickson Commercial Group represented the landlord, MLRO LLC/MLKO, LLC/Mill LLC.

An undisclosed tenant leased 1,625 square feet of office space at 100 W. Liberty Street in Reno. Scott Shanks, SIOR and Dominic Brunetti of Dickson Commercial Group represented the tenant.


Renown Health

Renown Health has awarded Immunize Nevada a three-year grant to help increase immunization rates for children in communities across the state.

The $375,000 grant will support Immunize Nevada’s efforts focused on community education, provider training, increased access points and staff support. Working together, Immunize Nevada and Renown will help families receive valuable information and expand access to necessary resources to help vaccinate area children on time.


NV Energy

NV Energy announced the opening of its NV Energy Carson City Truck Barn at 875 E. Long St.

The truck barn is an eight-bay, 10,716-square-foot vehicle maintenance facility, located on 12 acres.

Q & D Construction Inc. was awarded The State of Nevada contract for construction of the highway system near Dunphy at the UPRR and the Humboldt River in Eureka County.


A&K Earth Movers, Inc.

A&K Earth Movers, Inc. is requesting for subquotes from subcontractors and suppliers for the NDOT from State Route 877 at Franktown Road SR to US Highway 395A near Bowers Mansion.

NDA

Nevada Department of Agriculture will offer training, workshops and technical assistance to Nevada farmers to aid in the prevention of produce-related food safety outbreaks throughout the state. The program was made possible by a grant from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Through this grant, the NDA will receive nearly $2 million over five years to help farmers comply with the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule guidelines.


Gaming win

Nevada’s nonrestricted gaming licensees reported a total “gaming win” of $986,203,125 for the month of October 2016. This amounts to an 11.12 percent increase compared to October 2015, when licensees reported a gaming win of $887,510,784. For the fiscal year (July 1, 2016 through October 31, 2016), gaming win has increased 4.86 percent.

The win in Washoe County was $69,571,011, compared to $67,962,055 form a the same period a year ago, a 2.37 percent increase. The win in the Carson Valley Area was $8,823,252, a 1.15 percent increase from a year ago. Elko County’s win was $23,923,055, a decrease of 1.3 percent from a year ago.


Retail spending

The Retail Association of Nevada (RAN) estimates that nearly 1.4 million people took advantage of discounts and promotions during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, spending $400.5 million on gifts, decorations and other items.

RAN projects Nevada consumer spending during the season will grow by 4.2 percent this year and surpass $4.5 billion for the first time. On the national level, holiday spending is projected to increase by 3.6 percent over last year to reach $655 billion, according to National Retail Federation (NRF) estimates. The holiday shopping season spans November and December, and consumer spending figures exclude auto sales, restaurants and gasoline.


Dermody Properties

Dermody Properties, a national industrial real estate owner-operator has announced that the Northern Nevada recipient of the annual Dermody Properties Thanksgiving Capstone Award is the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN), which will receive $25,000 to assist with its School Pantry program.

The award is presented each year during the holiday season by the Dermody Properties executive management committee to help nonprofit organizations address the increased need they experience during the holidays. The award was created by Dermody Properties as a way to give thanks at a special time of year.


Nugget Casino Resort

Nugget Casino Resort announced it has the tallest reported fresh-cut Christmas tree in the United States this year, towering at 105 feet.

After research, the 2016 Nugget Christmas Tree slightly edges out the 100-foot Americana at Brand’s tree in Glendale, Calif. The Rockefeller Center tree in New York City stands 94 feet tall. The Fashion Island tree in Newport Beach, California measures at 90 feet. Meanwhile, the trees at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. and the Outlets at Anthem in Phoenix, Arizona are both 80 feet.

Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort, and Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort announced they are now open for the 2016-2017 winter ski season.
