City National announced that it has provided the Reno Rotary with a $1,500 donation in support of Lemelson STEM Academy. The money helped pay for new tools and other materials for the Academy’s “Makerspace” hands-on learning program that teaches students Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and other STEM related projects.
Educational outreach is one of City National’s primary focus for its community investment dollars. The bank, through its Reading is The way up® literacy program, funds a majority of its educational outreach as part of its Teacher Literacy Grants, Holiday Book Drive with Barnes & Noble, Dollars & Sense Financial Literacy, Author Visits, and so much more. Over the last several years the bank has awarded over 400,000 new books to schools in five states along with awarding close to $1.2 million to educators in Nevada, California, New York, Tennessee and Georgia.
About Lemelson STEM Academy
Lemelson STEM Academy is named after Mrs. Dorothy Lemelson, the wife of the late Jerome Lemelson, an accomplished inventor and philanthropist. Lemelson believed students learn most effectively through project based, hands on, exploratory learning. School staff and students spend at least 50% of their academic time within STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) disciplines. The school is community focused with an onsite washer and dryer, food pantry and clothes closet.
