EDAWN welcomes new and expanding companies in Reno region

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada honored 27 companies that relocated to the Greater Reno-Sparks area, and welcomed its newest addition, Mishimoto Automotive, at EDAWN’s New and Expanded Companies Welcome Reception on Dec. 8.

Mishimoto, a manufacturer of after-market cooling systems for the automotive industry, will move into a new approximately 53,000-square-foot facility in Spanish Springs.

Some of the other companies recognized by EDAWN at the event were Cam Concept and Alltrade Tools.

Cam Concept is developing augmented trailer and hook-lift systems and hybrids for such industries as waste management and construction.

Jacques Simard, vice president and founder of the company located in Sparks is looking to add staff and capital to get his venture going. He operates the company with his brother and sister-in-law, who live in Canada.

“We’ve been around for about 10 years now. I have one client here in Nevada, and starting to sell across the U.S. with reps in California, Washington, and an agreement with one Wisconsin,” Simard said. “I’m going to look to EDAWN to help with manufacturing and marketing in the West Coast and all the states.”

Alltrade Tools is a global company that designs and manufactures tools and shop equipment. It is relocating its distribution facility from California.

“(Reno-Sparks) is a community that’s vibrant and growing and we want to be a part of it,” said Robert Ellis, senior vice president for Alltrade. “When you’re a new company in the area, you can come under a lot of pitfalls, such as business licensing and things like that. These people were very helpful in making sure we had all of our ducks in a row.”

In additon to company honorees, Mike Kazmierski, president and CEO of EDAWN, was presented with an EDAWN Coin for his five years of service to the organization and the community. Kazmierski was lauded for helping to reduce unemployment, which was at an all-time high of 25,000 when he arrived in 2011 and bringing numerous companies to the region.

The reception drew more than 400 attendees at the Peppermill Resort Casino Spa.
