Nicholas Roach, whose injury in the Savage mine we recorded yesterday, died soon after we went to press. The deceased, a native of Ireland, aged about 35 years, leaves a wife and two children. His personal character was beyond reproach, and large circle of friends and acquaintances will mourn his early decease. — Virginia Union

A correspondent calls the attention of the Appeal to the fact that Esmeralda County has elected a Mugwump District Attorney and asks if it sought to ask for anything in the Legislature. By no means. These counties must quit Mugwumping if they want anything of the party. These disposed tribe of political kickers must be made an example of this year that will stamp them out utterly, all over the state.

Boys, girls, means and their families traveled in automobiles and trucks, on bicycles to Washoe Lake yesterday to enjoy the invigorating sport of skating. The lake is about perfect and smooth as glass and just warm enough to be comfortable.

Sixteen Boy Scouts from Carson City’s two troops were present to learn exhibit construction, model making and natural science in the opening meeting Saturday of the state museum’s winter program.

The Carson Mint, a restaurant-casino south of Carson City, has closed to a reported change in ownership. Majority owner Bill Crow says the business has been sold to a three-brother partnership in San Francisco.

A potential contract negotiation for ambulance service with the Carson-Tahoe Hospital and a freeze put on $100,000 originally earmarked for street repair could whittle the city’s budget deficit down to $50,000-$70,000.
