A winter storm dropped more than a foot of snow at Lake Tahoe-area ski resorts, and a foot and one-half at Mount Rose on the southwest edge of Reno.

About 25 vehicles were involved in a pileup that shut down slippery Interstate 80 for nearly two hours Sunday afternoon at the Nevada-California line just west of Reno.

The 7 inches of snow recorded at Reno-Tahoe International Airport on Sunday broke the old record of 3.5 inches for the date set in 1932, the National Weather Service said.

Dayton received three-inches of snow by Sunday morning. Carson received two-tenths of an inch of precipitation Sunday and Monday. On Saturday, Carson City received eight-tenths of an inch of precipitation, bringing January’s total to 1.74 inches of precipitation — which is just off of the average year to date (1.76 inches of precipitation).
