Mr. Carson High set for Feb. 6

It’s an annual rite of passage and role reversal of sorts for Carson High’s male seniors.

Carson High School will be holding its annual Mr. Carson High contest Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Carson City Community Center to raise money for the cheerleading squad. Twenty-four seniors will be competing Saturday to be crowned Mr. Carson High.

“It’s an interesting event,” said junior varsity cheerleader Megan Jackson. “The guys are all really funny and they are really into the competition, it is just a lot of fun.”

All proceeds of the fundraiser will go toward the cheerleaders to help send them to cheer camp in the summer.

“Mr. Carson is just hilarious. We have some really good and talented guys,” said Carson cheer coach Shelia Story. “Everyone is just laughing the whole time.”

Story said the contest has been a Carson High tradition since the 1980s. For senior Todd Lani, he’s following in his brother’s footsteps participating in Mr. Carson High.

“My brother did it two years ago and I have always loved going to these so I wanted to be a part of it,” Lani said. “It is a great fundraiser too and I am really excited for it.”

The competition will consist of a short question and answer, a talent portion and group dances with the guys and their cheerleader partners. For the talent portion, the boys will be showcasing skills from guitar playing to dance.

Tickets are $10 for general admission or $20 for VIP admission. With the VIP admission, attendees will get a catered dinner from Fandango Casino’s Ti Amo Italian Grille and specialty seating. The dinner starts at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6:30. For more information call 283-1675.
