Carson High School’s Career and Technical Education program is presenting its Career Expo Thursday, Feb. 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. The Expo is open to the general public as well as all Carson High School students.
Employers with career opportunities in each of the CTE pathways are invited to participate in the Career Expo to learn more about programs available to students and to help students learn more about the types of jobs available as Nevada pushes to meet the growing demand for skilled workers.
“It’s never too early to start planning for your future,” Penny Reynolds, Carson High School culinary arts teacher and the Career Expo organizer, said. “CTE has so much to offer outside of basic classes. The Expo is a chance to see some potentially new pathways you may have never considered, or known existed.”
The CTE program is part of Gov. Sandoval’s CTE initiative, providing education at industry levels in six career pathways including professions in agriculture and natural resources management, business and marketing, hospitality and tourism, information and media technologies, and skilled and technical sciences. Many students will test for and hold national certifications in their chosen field upon graduating from high school.
CTE department personnel, school counselors, administration, Link Crew, athletics staff, leadership teams and Career Technology Student Organizations will be on hand to lead tours and answer questions.
Representatives from local colleges, job and career services and branches of the military will provide information on post-secondary options, including Western Nevada College, Truckee Meadows Community College, Carrington College and Career College of Northern Nevada.
In addition, employers in the CTE program area, such as Carson Tahoe Health, will be present to provide information on career pathways. Carson High School’s career clusters and curriculum areas are listed below. Local and regional employers are encouraged to contact Paige Camara at The CHS Career Center at (775) 283-1638(775) 283-1638 or email Penny Reynolds at preynolds@carson.k12.nv.us to set up a booth at the Career Expo.
