We were informed last evening by Mr. Ellison that as he was coming toward Carson after dark and while near the Plank House on the Genoa road, a man halted him and told him to stop. Hearing a pistol cap explode, he surmised that foul play was intended, he urged his horse to a quicker pace, escaping five shots. Perhaps certain escaped convicts had a hand in this matter.

Boycotting begun. The first man to be boycotted in this city was J.C. Ogden of the Hot Springs. He started out Tuesday morning at once to hunt the Committee of the Anti-Chinese League to know when he was singled out.

100 years ago

Numerous letters are being received at the Governor’s Office from persons throughout the state asking for employment in exterminating the coyote. There seems to be a misunderstanding concerning this employment. The work will be under the Public Health Service Department or the Biological Survey.

At one of the most impressive ceremonies of the early social season, Miss Betty Fodrin became the bride of Lt. Comdr. Paul Wild of Des Moines, Iowa. Justice E.A. Ducker performed the marriage rites.
