Silver Dollars and Wooden Nickels: Eagle Scout lands on Carson City’s Lone Mountain

The Nevada Appeal’s Silver Dollars & Wooden Nickels feature recognizes achievements from the capital region and, when warranted, points out other acts that missed the mark.

SILVER DOLLAR: In his Eagle Scout project, Thomas Reed led the effort to make needed improvements to the Lone Mountain trail near Lone Mountain Cemetery. Reed showed how he earned his Eagle Scout status in a presentation to the Carson City Parks and Recreation Commission Tuesday. Carson City is known for its outdoor trails because of the work of people like Reed — which there are so many of in Carson City — and those who helped him.

SILVER DOLLAR: To the Carson High boys basketball and wrestling teams for clinching outright Sierra League titles.

SILVER DOLLAR: To 100-year-old Gertrude Gottschalk, “Galloping Gertrude,” who’s celebrating her 100th birthday this weekend. She has shown us age is truly just a number.
