Brewery Arts Center, Carson City wins a Levitt Amp music series grant

Carson City via the Brewery Arts Center was one of 15 winners of a $25,000 grant to create the The Levitt Amp Carson City Music Series.

Brewery Arts Center will present 10 free concerts as part of a summer series beginning in June thanks to the grant. One of the events to be featured during the series will be an all-day festival featuring top local musical acts. The series will take place at the Minnesota Street Stage adjacent to the Brewery Arts Center.

The Levitt AMP Carson City Grant Awards is a matching grant opportunity created by Levitt Pavilions to serve small to mid-sized towns and cities up to 400,000 people. Fifteen nonprofits, or municipalities partnering with a nonprofit, received up to $25,000 each in matching funds to produce their own Levitt AMP Music Series.

Brewery Arts Center submitted the proposal for Carson City. BAC Director Gina Lopez-Hill said the series will feature local, regional and national acts.

She said because the center didn’t want to “jinx” the chance of receiving the grant, the center has yet to finalize the schedule and lineup for the series. But she added the schedule and lineup for the summer concert series will be finalized in the next few weeks and she also said, “we have some things in mind.”

She said the grant will basically be used to bring the acts to Carson City.

“We’re going to provide a wide variety of genres for the community,” Lopez-Hill said. “It’s all going to be family friendly for all ages and all generations.”

Lopez-Hill said the stage to be used is going to be temporary, but the series is designed to show the community “of what it might be” as far the future is concerned, so it’s planned for a permanent stage to eventually be built.

Lopez-Hill noted the effort to earn the grant was “very competitive” and also said it’s quite an accomplishment for a community with 55,000 people such as Carson City to win the grant over communities as big as 400,000.

She said the community is to be thanked for that as part of the process to earn the grant involved people in the community voting for Carson City to become a finalist for the grant.

“We’re just thankful to the community for rallying us and getting us to the point where we could get the grant,” she said.

The other communities who received a grant were: Asbury Park, N.J.; Charlottesville, Va.; Cleveland, Miss.; Denison, Texas; Frederick, Md.; Greensboro, N.C.; Jacksonville, Ill.; Middlesboro, Ky.; Midvale, Utah; New Albany, Miss.; North Adams, Mass.; Sheboygan, Wisc.; Trenton, N.J.; Utica, N.Y.
