Yellow Jacket Mill. Under the direction of Superintendent Mr. O.S. Narey, the Yellow Jacket Mill is crushing 80 tons of ore daily. Mr. John Hogan, a practical amalgamator, has been appointed night foreman.

130 Years Ago

Anti-Chinese meeting. The meeting will take place at Judge Edwards courtroom. Chinatown has become a resort for opium fiends and scores of young men who might have grown up as useful members of society have been drawn into that miserable hold.

110 Years Ago

Gilded headlines. The Silver Bow Standard, edited by Leslie Smaill, has made an appearance. Aside from the general news, a limited number of this issue of the Standard had the headline printed in pure gold dust. It is the first time in Western journalism such a paper was ever turned off the press and is referred to as a “yellow journal.”

80 Years Ago

Invention. Stephan Pribill, a 25-year-old Hungarian, is planning to invent an electric ray apparatus, which make the “invisible man.” At a demonstration Pribill made objects seemingly disappear before their eyes (Vienna).

50 Years Ago

Photo caption. Walls came tumbling down as the old landmark at Fifth and Carson was razed to make way for construction of a garage by the Pozzi Motor Company. The structure once housed an early-day Carson City store, then “Hazel’s 49ers” played there for dances.

10 Years Ago

Nevada gas prices are on the rise at a statewide average of $2.32, which is 43 cents higher than January 2005.
