What was initially thought to be a stick of dynamite turned out to be a smoke bomb according to Douglas County Sheriff’s office.

At 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, DCSO responded to 1380 Centerville Road for a suspicious item found in a Dumpster.

The reporting party stated the item found appeared to be a stick of dynamite.

The Douglas County Explosive Ordinance Disposal team responded to scene and determined the item was an old smoke grenade or gopher bomb.

The smoke grenade has since been safely recovered and will be disposed of by the EOD team.

The EOD Team wants to caution the public if a suspicious item is located, not to touch the item and contact the local authorities immediately.
