In a conversation we had yesterday with an influential and important Army officer, he stated if the citizens of Carson wanted it, Camp Nye would not be abandoned, but would be made a permanent post for the rendezvous of troops and the distribution of military stores. As compared to Fort Churchill, it is imminently superior, he said.

It is surprising how general this Chinese agitation has become. Relative to the fear that the present storm will endanger bird life, Gov. Boyle today issued the following proclamation: “Since unusual falls of snow have buried the natural food of our wild birds and has thrown them on the bounty and mercy of man who can save them if he will; therefore I, Emmet D. Boyle, governor of the state of Nevada, do proclaim today and each day thereafter while present conditions prevail, Bird Day.”

John Carlson, Eagle Scout, of McGill, will “assume” Gov. Vail Pittman’s duties on Feb. 8, when Boy Scouts from all parts of the biggest Scout area in the United States take of all offices for one day.

The Mike Ingersoll Memorial Lectures Foundation, in memory of the Carson City youth killed last December in a skydiving accident, was formally launched today by Bill Chaffin, ASUN president on behalf of students at UNR.
