Renown Health has plans for the long-vacant big box at 2450 Oddie Blvd., the site of a former Lowes Home Improvement. Lowes closed the Oddie location and moved to the Legends Outlet Mall in 2012.

“Yes (Renown has purchased the old Lowes location), we are excited to be able to grow with the community and make an investment in Sparks at 2450 Oddie Boulevard,” Dawn Ahner, executive vice president and chief administrative officer for Renown Health said in an email.

“We acquired the property for $6.5 million,” Ahner said. “This location is more than 192,000 square feet on a 10-plus acre lot.”

While Renown has confirmed purchase of the location, plans are less defined.

“We haven’t finalized plans, but we expect to move support services staff into this new location including our call center and distribution center employees,” Ahner explained.

The size of the property may seem vast for these needs, but the amount of staff and parking to follow may warrant it.

“We plan to move as many as 700 employees to this facility once it is completed. This facility will house support services employees — not clinical staff,” Ahner added.

It is uncertain at this time if the new location for Renown will result in job opportunities, but Ahner did explain that, “Renown is always focused on growing with the community and this facility will be no different. We will move certain areas of support services to this location, many of which are currently housed in many different locations. We hire new positions as they are needed to meet the growing healthcare needs of our community.”

“Construction to add office spaces and other modifications is underway and we don’t expect to move staff into this space until mid to late 2017. We are still finalizing other amenities that will be available to employees at this location,” Ahner said. “We are still evaluating when employees will be moved and operations will begin. As we finalize a date, we will update the community.”

Renown is still evaluating who will perform their needed scope of work.

The acquisition of 2450 Oddie Blvd. adds to the list of change and growth Renown has set forth in northern Nevada this year.

Other recent news from Renown includes their announcement to partner with Stanford Health Care in June, returning medical services to Tonopah and additions to medical services to serve northern Nevada.
